Thriller Opening: Props
1.
Christian Cross Necklace:
This prop is the Christian cross
necklace and symbolises Christianity and to ward off evil.
This will be used in the opening
by the protagonist as he will be warding off evil and shows a sign of peace.
This prop would be in a typical
thriller film to show the difference between good and evil and adds religion to
the thrillers and their beliefs such as God and the Devil.
The meanings this will create
purity and innocence as it relates to Jesus who was pure of heart and died on
the cross.
This prop gives ideas about the
character due to the representation of the Christian cross and how the audience
know the antagonists beliefs.
These props consist of different foods that are typically in
an English breakfast.
These will be used in the opening to show the antagonist
making a typical English breakfast which links to other events this character
is doing e.g. murdering.
This is typical in a thriller as it disguises who the antagonist
is by linking everyday events to them to mask their real identity.
The meanings created from this prop are that it links to the
killings the antagonist causes such as the eggs connoting a pair of eyes from
the protagonist.
The representation ideas link to the setting of the
antagonist which is located in a typical household kitchen to make the
breakfast and it links to the type of character as the antagonist lives an
everyday life.
This prop is
a devil/demon mask and is used to hide the antagonists face when he is killing.
It will be
used when the antagonist is trying to kill the protagonist and puts it on after
seeing a vision.
This is used
in a typical thriller film because it is a type of mask to hide the killers
face e.g. Jason’s hockey mask.
The meanings
this mask will create are to show religious evil from the devil who is
considered to punish bad people in hell. This also shows a sign to the
antagonist about his ‘condition.’
The
representational ideas about the antagonist from the mask are that he is pure
evil and does harm to others including the protagonist and considered a big
threat for the introduction of the film.
