BBFC Research
BBCF - 'British Board of Film Classification'
The BBCF classifies cinema films/DVD's/Videos with different age ratings from the 'Recordings Act' which was passed in the year 1984.
Ratings the BBFC uses:
U
PG
12A
12
15
18
R18
Factors that effect the age rating each flm gets include discrimination, drugs, horror, dangerous and easily imitable behaviour, language, nudity, sex, and violence.
Our Thriller would recieve a 15 because of the use of violence and blood which wouldnt be suitble to show children under the age of 15 years and would be inappropraite to younger children.

Costume
Costume and Make up choice
Costume
For the protagonist he needs to have a white short sleeved shirt, black trousers and just usual office wear. The ideas that this gives us of the protagonist is a normal person that is pure and does not do anything bad. He is the usual working class person doing an everyday morning routine getting ready for work. It is typical of the genre because it connotes normality with abnormality which creates tension. The shirt is going to have tomato ketchup spilt on it which suggests something bad is going to happen.
For the antagonist a devil mask will be put on, he will have a white straight jacket on with blood stains. This is to show that he is the bad person, the blood stain show that he has killed before and he will again. It shows danger and shows he is a dangerous person that is going to kill the protagonist. You will not see the bottom half so that is or relevant. It will show that bad things are about to happen and this is typical in the genre. Plus the mask suggests evil, the devil is putting the protagonist through hell and the devil has come from hell, that is the connection.
Location
Location
The location I have chosen is my house. It is going to represent the genre very well to the target audience because it is an everyday location and where you think you are safe in but as the audience may expect, you are not safe. We got this location from ‘Dexter’ when he is going through his morning routine.
We are going to light the different rooms in the house dark to make sure it looks like it is of the typical thriller genre and when we take a shot of outside the house we will take a low angle shot because it makes the house look big. It makes the house tower over the camera shot to make it look like you can’t go out and it gives the effect of being daunting.

Thriller intro: Props used
Thriller Opening: Props
1. Christian Cross Necklace:
This prop is the Christian cross necklace and symbolises Christianity and to ward off evil.
This will be used in the opening by the protagonist as he will be warding off evil and shows a sign of peace.
This prop would be in a typical thriller film to show the difference between good and evil and adds religion to the thrillers and their beliefs such as God and the Devil.
The meanings this will create purity and innocence as it relates to Jesus who was pure of heart and died on the cross.
This prop gives ideas about the character due to the representation of the Christian cross and how the audience know the antagonists beliefs.
2. Food/English breakfast:
These props consist of different foods that are typically in an English breakfast.
These will be used for graphic matches of people being murdered. For example the egg can be cut into slowly and the yolk will seep out slowly like blood seeping out of a cut wound.
This is typical in a thriller as it disguises who the antagonist is by linking everyday events to them to mask their real identity.
The meanings created from this prop are that it links to the killings the antagonist causes such as the eggs connoting a pair of eyes from the protagonist. We will us graphic matches to suggest that a murder is going to happen.
The representation ideas link to the setting of the protagonist in an innocent and normal everyday place. In the home where it is safe and he is doing normal things. He is your everyday working class man and that makes it scary when he starts to see the devil.
