The introduction to the movie starts off with a panning shot around the area. This was used so the audience could get an idea of the scenery the movie was based in. The weather creates tension as the rain creates tension along with the atmosphere being dark and depressing. This could be improved because the panning could have been more stable as the camera moved up and down slightly.
The next scene is used to introduce the first main character to the audience which is the antagonist. This is following on from the panning shot but is used to go the other way to where the camera first shot. It is a medium shot as it focuses on his top half of his body. This could be improved by panning the shot more smoothly and maybe slightly slower than before as it seems slightly rushed.
The next shot is a point of view shot from the antagonist as
he opens the door. This was well made as we managed to the film from the
antagonist’s eye level so it gives the audience an idea of what he is
doing. This could be improved by making
the shot slightly longer and less unsteady as the camera moved quite a bit when
filming.
This shot consisted of an over the shoulder shot of the
protagonist and a longshot of the antagonist entering the room. This was an
effective shot as it ran quite smoothly from the previous point of view shot
changing straight to him entering the room. The improvement to this would be to
make the camera less shaky again and to angle it better as an over the shoulder
shot towards the antagonist.
The title of the introduction is simple as the typography is
white and moves on from the left to centre. This could be improved by adding
colour to the title as it looks boring and unoriginal. The transition could
have been better also with a fade on effect.
We managed to stick to the 180 degree rule when filming
because if we did not, it would have confused the audience as the characters
would have switched places from left to right or right to left and would have
had to re-film otherwise.
The lighting throughout is reasonably light except the introduction because that was filmed outside in the rain but the majority of the introduction is light due to being inside with typical lights. To improve we could have changed the brightness of the lights to add tension and make the introduction more realistic.
From analysing the task, I have learnt that I need to be
much organised and put everything in order so that the making of the
introduction made sense and everyone knew what to do at the right queues such
as speaking or filming. I researched many different types of thriller
introductions to get inspiration from them and a few ideas but made sure not to
copy any.
The key improvements I need to make from analysing the
introduction are the camerawork needs to be held steadier as it shakes a
reasonable amount and that the location for the introduction could have been
filmed in a better spot such as a rundown building which suits the thriller
genre and matches the plot. There could have been more diegetic and also
non-diegetic sounds added to add more tension as it will give more realism.
