Evaluation Question 3

The production Company is called CnR Productions. We used this because it is the beginning of our names (Calum & Ross.) The production company is short and easy to remember and looks professional with a camera logo on the side adding the film effect before the title.

The logo is different to most logos because of its simplicity. The colouring is simply black and white whereas most include more than 2 colours including gold, blue and red. There are some similarities including the text being similar as it shows the name of the company clearly. Other examples include Lionsgate and Universal.

A production company is used for producing the media and is also to provide the money for the media (film, TV shows etc.) to be created in the first place. Some production companies only go with the specific genres of the media such as horror. An example of this is ‘Twisted Pictures’ as they are the production company of some of the top horror/thriller films (e.g. Saw Franchise.)

We chose to look at Twisted Pictures because they produce top horror/thriller films that became very popular over the years and links to the brutality of the films they create and plots as they can link to our psychological thriller such as torture and unexpected killings from characters that are unknown in the film and left that way until the end. We also felt that the production company logo at the start looked vicious and the audience can clearly see the type of film it is portraying with the use of the sharp object twisted in barbed wire which also links to the title of their production company. Films that Twisted Pictures have produced include Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Catacombs and Saw Franchise. These are more suitable towards our thriller is because

There were no names in the title except the actor who is playing the victim. We decided this because we feel the titles in the beginning are too distracting to look at instead of watching the opening which is the most important part of the film as it introduces the characters and raises a lot of tension instead of the audience looking at the multiple titles played throughout. We also felt the introduction didn’t look too realistic if there were titles as it wouldn’t set the scene for the film.

Our film was similar to institutionally such as the television series called ‘Dexter’ which we took a lot of inspiration from due to the false ideas it gives and the plot was very good.

Evaluation Question 4

The type of people we decided to identify as our audience were people aged roughly from 15 to 25 year olds and usually being the male gender. This age group watch the film because it is the closest age that links to our thriller as that age typically like films including gore and jump scares during thriller films.

Profile:

Age: 18 years old

Gender: Male

Siblings: Younger sister

Born: Scotland

Favourite:

Magazine – GQ

TV show – Suits

Film – Shaun of the Dead

Music Preference: Pop

Shop: Primark

Other film genres: Action and adventure

We researched our audience by viewing different types of films such as action, adventure and mystery related to our film and compared there age ratings of each. It turned out to be mostly 15 year restriction from the BBFC.  The sort of content allowed at 15 includes mild swearing and strong violence with sexual scenes. This applies to our film due to the violence including the use of a knife and the violence it creates towards the audience.

The findings of our audience’s expectations included containing action scenes and a few hints of gory scenes such as knife stabbing or gun shooting. Since these were the top reasons why people watch thrillers and ours was a psychological thriller, we tried to address as many expectations possible which fit the theme of a psychological thriller but also adding what the audience want and expect to see to fit their expectations.
The BBFC would rate our film a 15. This is because of the usage of violence portrayed in our film due to killing and the use of blood. This wouldn’t be suitable for younger ages and older people don’t watch these type of movies as they don’t find them interesting. This impacts our audience because it narrows down the amount of people who would watch the film as only people over the age of 15 can watch and there is a vast majority of younger teens who can only watch films age rating 12 or below and don’t fit the target audience.
